Flick: Next season will be more challenging, and we must continue to grow
Saturday 24-05-2025
German Hans Flick, the head coach of Barcelona, spoke during the press conference preceding the team's match against Athletic Bilbao, in the 38th and final round of the Spanish league for the 2024/2025 season, which will take place tomorrow, Sunday, at San Mamés stadium.

Regarding the match against Athletic Bilbao, Flick said: "We are focusing intensely on the game, and I think having three days of rest was great. When we returned to training, we needed some things, and we trained with great focus."

On renewing Lamine Yamal's contract, he said: "I have complete confidence that Lamine Yamal will stay. I trust him, and he knows that. He is a player who loves playing for Barcelona, and we all love him here."

On evaluating the season, he added: "I haven't thought about it much, but I believe the season is good, and I would rate it between 8 and 10."

Regarding the future of Ronald Araujo, Flick confirmed: "He has signed a new contract, and I trust he will continue with us. His season has been tough due to an injury at the beginning, but he has returned, and both Koubarsi and Inigo have been performing excellently. Araujo is capable of contributing a lot to the team, and we expect more from him in the future."

On the impact of La Masia on the team, he said: "We need to focus. In the past, Barcelona was a mix of La Masia players and talents coming from abroad. The young players are giving their all, and we will see tomorrow how the lineup will be. I look forward to seeing everyone."

On Barcelona's summer transfers, he indicated: "I think keeping the key players is the most important thing to ensure the team's future. I spoke with Deco about this, and he knows what we need to strengthen the team."

On strengthening the attack line, he said: "This is what I discussed with Deco. We didn't have many options in this position; it's his task, and I'm waiting for him. I don't want to talk about players who are not in my team. Rashford and Diaz are great players, but you are the ones talking about them. We will see what happens."

On renewing his contract with Barcelona, the German coach said: "This season was not easy; it was very difficult. Next season will be tougher, and we need to improve and continue working hard, as well as provide more options for the players. Everything is planned, and we are waiting to see what the summer matches will reveal."

On Ansu Fati's situation, he said: "The decision is not in my hands. Ansu has a contract, and he will make the right decision. When the time comes to discuss it with me, I will express my opinion, but in the end, the decision is not mine."

He continued talking about the women's team, saying: "I wish the women's team victory in the Champions League final against Arsenal. Our goal for next season is to continue to grow and reach further than we did this season."

Regarding the vacation and return to training, Flick concluded his remarks, saying: "We will start the preparation period for the new season on July 13, and the first training session will be on Monday. I will start my vacation, and some players will participate with their national teams, and we will meet in Stuttgart, near my home."
