Koller: I Feel Comfortable at Al Ahly and Don't Want to Leave
Sunday 06-04-2025
Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller responded to news about his potential departure from his position as the head coach of the club.

Koller stated in press remarks: "Returning to work in Germany? I'm not thinking about that... I have a valid contract here and I feel comfortable."

He added: "I know that our work moves very quickly... three or four defeats, and the mood of the fans will change... this is the case everywhere and with every team... and it is no different with Al Ahly."

He continued: "I recently saw a statistic indicating that the average tenure of coaches in the German league is only 9 months, and these conditions are unhealthy, especially since as a coach, you need time to develop the team."

He further explained: "Experienced coaches have an advantage; they are more capable of handling pressure and dealing with management interventions, unlike young coaches who may be easily affected."

Regarding his working conditions at Al Ahly, he clarified that there are clear differences between training in Egypt and Europe, saying: "You cannot compare it to Central Europe... we do not have four or five training pitches here; even in Bochum, we had three different training facilities."

On the impact of the weather on the quality of the pitches, Koller said: "Temperatures can exceed 40 degrees for weeks, which makes it difficult to maintain the quality of the grass, which becomes harder and resembles carpet, unlike what is found in Europe."

Koller concluded his remarks by confirming that he enjoys being at Al Ahly, stating: "Working here is a challenge, but I really enjoy it... this experience helps me in other matters, and I am proud of it."
