Al-Hilali: Religion is above all else for me, and I rejected Barcelona
Young Moroccan defender Omar Hilali, a player for the Spanish club Espanyol, spoke about his commitment to the Islamic religion despite the difficulties.
The player said: “I am very clear that religion comes before football. So I need to balance them. If it requires suffering to perform Ramadan, I will do that because religion is my life.”
Regarding an attempt by Barcelona to join him, he stated: “I refused to join Barcelona.” I preferred Espanyol because I felt that this was the best for me. And my family thought the same thing.”
He continued: “The sports project at Espanyol was what I wanted, and I think I made the right decision because now I am living my dream.”
