FC Barcelona eyeing Gustavo Varela after Serie A standout
Portuguese forward Gustavo Varela, a striker for AC Monza, has caught the attention of FC Barcelona after his impressive performances this season, becoming one of the standout discoveries in Serie A at the age of 21.
FC Barcelona have joined the list of clubs monitoring the player, according to Spanish newspaper "Sport", citing Portuguese outlet "A Bola". Deco has known him since his time at SL Benfica.
Farella has scored 9 goals and provided 1 assist in 9 Serie A matches, leading the scoring chart. He has also netted 11 goals in 10 matches across all competitions. Arsenal and SSC Napoli are also interested in signing him.
AC Monza signed the Portuguese forward last summer from SL Benfica for two million euros, plus add-ons, but they are aiming to receive between 40 and 50 million euros to agree to his departure.
Fariola's contract extends until June 2030, with no release clause, while SL Benfica retains 20% of the profits from any resale, along with a right of first refusal for contracting him.
FC Barcelona continues to monitor the player's development without making a formal offer, amid increasing competition for his signature ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
