Gasperini after defeat to Manchester United: We had the win in our hands

Gian Piero Gasperini expressed his disappointment after AS Roma's 3-2 loss to Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League, as his team squandered a two-goal lead during the match held at Old Trafford.

Gasperini said in statements to Sky Sport Italy: "Everything happened during the last seven or eight minutes, due to set pieces resulting from corner kicks, and there were no other clear indications of what happened, except for what occurred especially after the penalty, which certainly gave them a big boost, while we were unable to contain that momentum."

He added: "We should have played a little differently, perhaps by utilizing long balls and pushing them a bit away from our half. But fundamentally, we were no longer able to keep track of their players, and as a result, they outperformed us in pressing and did not allow us to play, even in our attacking attempts, which caused us some problems."

AS Roma's coach stated: "We feel some disappointment when we see victory slip away from our hands, after we had it, or at least when we lose a good point that was within our reach."

Gasperini concluded his statements by saying: "Perhaps the team needs to relieve some of the pressure associated with the necessity of achieving results at all costs, as it is not just about that. But this match will definitely benefit us more than others."
