English competition for Villarreal full-back
Alex Freeman, the right-back for Villarreal and the United States national team, has caught the attention of Manchester United and Manchester City following his recent improvement in form.
Football Insider has reported that both clubs are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old player, with Manchester City viewing him as a long-term solution for the right-back position, while Manchester United have sent their scouts to watch him as part of their plans to rebuild the defense.
CaughtOffside has reported that Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City are interested in the player, along with Tottenham who are looking for potential alternatives to Pedro Porro.
Alex Freeman joined Villarreal in January 2026, becoming a key player for the team. He also participated in all five matches for the United States during the FIFA World Cup 2026 under the management of Maurício Pochettino.
The player is attracting attention due to his speed, physical strength, and ability to play in multiple defensive positions, but Villarreal hold a strong position with his contract running until 2032.
Clubs remain interested in Alex Freeman but have not yet entered formal negotiations, with the possibility of his value increasing if he continues his good performances in European competitions.
