Paris Saint-Germain gives Zabarni a new chance to prove himself against Villarreal

Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi is set to get another chance to prove his abilities with Paris Saint-Germain after struggling to adapt during his first season with the team, amid the complex tactical demands of coach Luis Enrique, as well as the difficult psychological conditions linked to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, Luis Enrique is set to start Zabarni against Villarreal on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League to compensate for the absence of captain Marquinhos due to injury.

The match represents an important opportunity for the 24-year-old defender as he prepares for his fourth Champions League match in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt. He could equal his total minutes played in the competition last season, which was 213 minutes, if he plays the entire match.

Former AFC Bournemouth player has struggled for game time in major matches, remaining on the bench for nine consecutive UEFA Champions League games. However, Luis Enrique still trusts in his ability to develop, especially since the club signed him with the aim of helping him grow gradually, rather than demanding he deliver his best performances from the start.
