Abdelli criticises Marseille's collapse against Le Havre: What happened is unacceptable
Algerian Himad Abdelli expressed his dissatisfaction with the significant decline in Olympique Marseille's performance during the closing minutes of their match against Le Havre, despite his team's victory by four goals to three on Sunday evening in the eighth round of Ligue 1.
Olympique Marseille took the lead with four goals to nil, after C. J. Egan-Riley scored in the 5th minute, Timothy Weah in the 33rd minute, Igor Paixão in the 50th minute, before Himad Abdelli added the fourth goal in the 55th minute.
However, Le Havre returned to the match in the closing minutes, with Josh Maja scoring two goals in the 77th and 89th minutes, while Lamine Ndiaye netted the third goal in the 86th minute, putting Marseille under significant pressure until the final whistle. In the dying moments, referee Clément Turpin reviewed a situation where a handball was suspected in the penalty area, but he decided not to award a penalty.
Himad Abdelli said after the match: "When you go four goals up, you shouldn't concede three goals and create anxiety at the end, especially at home. We are happy to get the three points, but putting ourselves in this position is unacceptable for me. The match lasts 90 minutes, and we have to give our all for the entire duration, not just for 70 or 80 minutes."
Algerian midfielder Himad Abdelli stated: "We need to maintain our commitment for the full 90 minutes. I also think about the substitute players; we give our maximum effort for 70 or 80 minutes, and the players who come onto the pitch need to put in the same effort. That didn't happen tonight, and we will work to correct it, and perhaps they will be the ones to make the difference next week."
Bruno Genesio expressed his anger at the way his team finished the match, saying: "I may have lost some years of my life during the last minutes. When we lack humility, what happened today occurs, and we even left the match better than we deserved. This should serve as a warning, and we must remember well what happened during the last 15 minutes."
Olympique Marseille's coach said: "We lost our cohesion in the last quarter of an hour, and I am extremely frustrated with the performance of the young players whom we praise for their abilities and spirit. This could have cost us dearly, and I am very angry. When a young player comes into a match with Marseille, they need to have something to prove, and I think they need to learn quickly from their mistakes."
