Olympique Marseille suffered their third consecutive defeat in the UEFA Europa League, losing 1-0 to their hosts Sturm Graz on Thursday evening, in a match that took place during the third round of the group stage.

The only goal of the match came in the 11th minute from Ivorian striker Omar Diakité, who capitalized on a mistake in play between goalkeeper De Lange and young midfielder Kamissoko. After Faïndal intercepted the ball, he passed it to Diakité, who broke free and found the back of the net.

Olympique Marseille struggled offensively throughout the match, despite having 72% possession compared to 28% for the Austrian team, as they managed only one shot on target, while Sturm Graz had five on target. Abdullah's attempt hit the post in the 39th minute, while the Austrian team could have extended their lead on several occasions, were it not for the brilliance of goalkeeper De Lang and the crossbar standing firm for the French side.

Marseille's coach tried to energize the front line by bringing on Abdallah and Baichao at the start of the second half, then introducing Højbjerg and Egan Riley in the 63rd minute. However, the changes were not sufficient to change the result, leaving the French team with another defeat that increases the pressure on them.

With this result, Olympique Marseille remain without any points after three matches, dropping to 34th place in the temporary standings out of 36 teams, on goal difference from the teams at the bottom of the table. The statistic reported by RMC Sport indicates that no team has managed to qualify for the next round under the new UEFA Europa League system after losing their first three matches.

In his post-match comments, midfielder Jeffrey Kondogbia said: "We feel some disappointment. We deserved a better result, at least a draw. These situations keep happening, and we need to work on addressing them. We must focus on gathering points and not look beyond that. We need to find solutions. Our fans continue to support us, and it is as difficult for them as it is for us. We need to change this course."

Olympique Marseille must improve their position in the upcoming rounds after failing to secure any European victory so far, despite their impressive 5-2 win over Angers in Ligue 1 during the last round.
