CR Belouizdad rejects Nabil Maaloul's resignation and insists on his continuation
CR Belouizdad have rejected the resignation announced by their coach, Tunisian Nabil Maaloul, following the 2-2 draw against USM Alger in the seventh round of the Algerian Professional League, in a match that featured tense atmospheres and controversial refereeing incidents.
Al-Ma'loul, aged 64, announced his decision to leave during the press conference following the match, confirming his stance after the game that took place on Saturday, after his team failed to maintain their lead.
CR Belouizdad took the lead with two goals from striker Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda, before USM Alger succeeded in coming back and equalising, despite missing a penalty during the match.
Tension escalated after the Tunisian coach was sent off in the 79th minute for protesting against the decisions of the officiating team and engaging in a dispute with the fourth official and the assistant referee, leading referee Mustapha Ghorbal to show him a red card.
CR Belouizdad management is working to convince Maaloul to stay.
In this context, Algerian journalist Mohamed Cheikh reported that CR Belouizdad's sporting director, Jaber Naimoun, has rejected the resignation of Maaloul, indicating that the club's management is seeking to convince the coach to reverse his decision and continue his duties at the helm of the technical staff.
Reports have linked the Tunisian coach's position to the refereeing events that accompanied the USM Alger match, which saw four penalties awarded, three of them in favor of USM Alger, according to those reports.
Maaloul is set to hold a meeting with the sporting director on Monday to discuss his future with the team and attempt to reach an agreement regarding the next phase, amid the management's desire to maintain technical stability and avoid changing the coach at the start of the season.
A positive outcome for Maaloul despite announcing his resignation.
This development comes despite the positive results achieved by Maaloul since taking charge of CR Belouizdad, as he has led the team to four victories and two draws in six matches, a record that has helped the club remain at the top of the Algerian league standings in partnership with MC Oran.
CR Belouizdad fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the upcoming talks between Maaloul and the club management, given the importance of the current stage of the season and the team's pursuit of continuing to compete for the top positions.
