Three Tunisian coaches set to leave Algerian league within a week
Algerian clubs are experiencing turmoil at the coaching level, with the futures of three Tunisian coaches in doubt within a week. This comes amid declining results and increasing pressure from fans, alongside strained relationships with club management.
Moundir Kbir has become the first victim of recent developments, as the management of CS Constantine decided to terminate his duties due to negative results. Subsequently, Nabil Maaloul announced his resignation from coaching CR Belouizdad following the thrilling 2-2 draw against USM Alger. Meanwhile, doubts surround Khaled Ben Yahia's future with MC Algiers, amid reports of disagreements with the management and increasing pressure from fans, despite his success in leading the team to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The departure of Tunisian coaches has begun with CS Constantine's decision to part ways with Mundhir Kbir, after the team failed to achieve the expected results during the early rounds of the Algerian league.
According to Algerian media, the team has played six matches under the Tunisian coach, achieving two wins, one draw, and three losses, collecting only seven points out of a possible 18, a tally that has not satisfied the management or the fans.
Pressure has increased on the coaching staff following a series of heavy defeats, most notably the loss to ES Setif by a score of 1-5, and then the fall to Chabab Al-Abyar by a score of 2-4, after the team also lost to Olympique Akbou by three goals to nil.
The defeat against Chabab El Ebiar at the CS Constantine stadium marked a turning point for the club, as fan protests escalated, blaming the coaching staff and club management for the decline in performance and results.
Tarik Arama, the interim general manager of the club, revealed that the management attempted to reach an amicable agreement with the Tunisian coach to terminate the contractual relationship, but the negotiations did not result in an agreement, prompting the club to resort to the provisions stipulated in the contract to end his duties.
Unlike the big names, Nabil Maaloul's departure from CR Belouizdad came at the coach's own decision, who announced his resignation after the thrilling 2-2 draw against USM Alger in the seventh round of the Algerian league.
The derby saw significant twists, with CR Belouizdad taking a two-goal lead through Tunisian Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda, before USM Alger managed to come back into the match with two penalties, ending the encounter in a draw.
The match was not only exciting due to the score, but also saw widespread protests over refereeing decisions, with four penalties awarded and two red cards shown, one of which was to Maaloul after he protested against referee Mustapha Ghorbal's decisions.
After the match, the Tunisian coach announced his resignation during the press conference, thanking the club management, the owning company, and the fans for their support. He confirmed that he was unable to continue his duties, without revealing additional details regarding the reasons for his decision.
Reports link Mouad Maaloul's resignation to his anger during the derby, especially after his dismissal and his protest over the non-awarding of a penalty for his team.
In contrast, Khaled Ben Yahia faces a different situation with MC Algiers, as speculation has increased regarding the end of his tenure with the team, amid fan criticism of the performance and reports of tension in his relationship with the club's management.
These developments come despite the successes achieved by the Tunisian coach, who led MC Algiers to win the domestic league title last season, before successfully reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League after overcoming Enyimba in the second preliminary round.
According to Algerian media reports, tensions rose during the Enyimba match between Ben Yahia and MC Algiers fans, who criticized his tactical choices and style of play, demanding his departure, despite the victory securing the team's qualification for the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
Reports indicate that the Tunisian coach has made a decision regarding his departure, influenced by pressure from fans and the media, as well as feeling he has not received adequate support from the club's management, especially following the events that occurred after the first leg match in Nigeria.
With the sacking of Munther Kabeer, the resignation of Nabil Maaloul, and the uncertainty surrounding Khaled Ben Yahia's future, all eyes are on what the coming days will bring amid the challenges facing the three coaches in the Algerian league.
