Nabi after victory over Ittihad Tawraka: The three points were our priority
Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi confirmed that securing the three points was the most important goal for his team during the match against Ittihad Tanger, which the red team won 1-0 today, Saturday, in the fifth round of the Moroccan Professional League.
Nabi explained during the press conference that followed the match that the circumstances leading up to the encounter necessitated a focus on achieving victory, especially since he took over as coach of Wydad just three days prior to the match, following the departure of the previous coach.
The Tunisian coach stated that victory was the priority at this stage, praising the work done by the technical staff and the club management during the short preparation period to prepare the players and set up the team to achieve the desired result.
Naby has stated that performance development and an improvement in playing style will come at a later stage, after the team has succeeded in achieving its primary goal. He emphasized that the next phase will focus on enhancing the team's technical and collective level.
The Wydad coach also spoke about his first impression upon joining the club, confirming that he felt the size, historical value, and prestige of the club as soon as he entered the Benjelloun Centre. This, he believes, reflects the great responsibility placed on him to lead a team that enjoys such a status.
In contrast, Swiss-Italian Guglielmo Arena, coach of Ittihad Tawraka, attributed his team's loss to a lack of attacking efficiency, despite the chances his players created during the match, noting that the same problem had appeared in the previous game.
Arena confirmed that his team does not approach matches based on the opponent's name or status, even when facing big clubs with experienced players. He explained that Ittihad Touarika adopts the same approach in preparing for all encounters, aiming to achieve the best possible result.
Union Touarika's coach pointed out that his team succeeded in controlling the flow of the game and creating important chances throughout both halves, but they were unable to convert them into goals. He considered that improving efficiency in front of goal is one of the key areas that need to be worked on in the upcoming period.
