Foden: I enjoy playing in this position, and the manager isn't afraid to rely on young players
Phil Foden, the star of Manchester City, expressed his happiness with the 5-1 victory over AEK Athens, confirming that the team showed great determination and stuck to their plan despite the difficulty of some periods of the match. He also spoke about regaining his form and the importance of helping younger players.
Phil Foden said in statements to "TNT Sports": "I enjoyed the match a lot. My teammates put in a great performance again, and we showed determination once more. The performance wasn't beautiful at times, but I think we stuck to the game plan and kept trying until we finally managed to break through the opponent's defense."
He added about his goals in the match: "Perhaps the second goal, in the way it came, was special. I am happy to score goals, as I play in the front line, so I must continue to score and help the team. This is good for my confidence."
Speaking about his return to his best form, Foden said: "I am gradually getting back to my level, but I still have a long way to go. That said, I am heading in the right direction, scoring goals during this phase definitely helps me. I want to keep working hard and give my best for the coach and the team."
He also spoke about his role as a false nine, saying: "When I moved to play as a false nine, I really enjoyed that role, and I truly enjoyed it during tonight's match."
Foden concluded his remarks by highlighting the importance of supporting young players within the team, stating: "I try, along with the team leaders, to help them in the best way possible. We try to support the young players, and this reflects the trust the manager gives them. We have a lot of injuries, but he is not afraid to rely on the younger players."
