Blatter mocks Infantino: The Pope will love what he did!
Joseph Blatter, the former president of FIFA, has mocked his successor Gianni Infantino following the latter's speech to members of the executive council of FIFA in Zurich on Thursday, which included an apology for the mistakes related to the project of opening the FIFA World Cup to private sector investors.
Gianni Infantino has apologized for the mistakes surrounding the management of the project and the way it was communicated, noting that this has led to numerous consequences. He also announced the allocation of $25 million, which is approximately €22 million.
Sepp Blatter, who presided over FIFA from 1998 to 2015, seized the moment to ridicule Infantino on his X account, stating: "Gianni Infantino, the greatest of all time! Amazing performance in Zurich. Infantino, who seems to be a good Catholic, admits his sins and then promises to give 25 million. Confession, atonement, and forgiveness, all in one appearance! The Pope will love this."
Blatter concluded his criticism with a biting message, stating: "But in football, as in the church, credibility cannot be bought." His remarks come amid the criticism faced by Gianni Infantino over the proposal to involve private investors in the FIFA World Cup, before he backtracked on it.
