Gasperini: We need to regain our mental strength and need a wider squad

Gian Piero Gasperini, the head coach of AS Roma, has stressed the importance of overcoming the effects of the recent loss to Real Madrid and focusing on the upcoming match against Genoa, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, in the seventh round of the Serie A. He highlighted the need to regain mental balance and handle critical moments better.

Gasperini addressed the press, stating: "There was a psychological impact after conceding the third goal against Real Madrid, and this is something that needs to be worked on. This team should not feel pressured to win the UEFA Champions League or Serie A, but rather focus on delivering the required performance. When you concede a goal, you cannot lose your morale; you must handle the situation with organization and a strong reaction."

The AS Roma coach spoke about the absences the team is facing, explaining that Mano Kone has suffered a grade one muscle injury, while Paulo Dybala is dealing with calf muscle fatigue, expressing hope for the players' return in the near future.

The possibility of using Lorenzo Pellegrini in midfield has been highlighted due to the team's numerical shortage, with the coach confirming that the number of matches necessitates having a squad with a larger number of players capable of participating.

Gasperini has stated that facing Genoa will not be easy, despite the different nature of the opponent compared to Real Madrid. He mentioned that the team has good organization and the ability to close spaces and defend effectively.

AS Roma need strength, energy, and confidence, while also needing to capitalize on opportunities and avoid mistakes that have cost them goals in recent matches.

AS Roma's coach concluded his statements by affirming his confidence in his players' ability to achieve a positive result, noting that winning such encounters provides the team with a morale boost and helps the players regain their confidence.

He emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to available players, given the pressure of matches and injuries, confirming that the team will enter the match against Genoa with the goal of winning despite the tough conditions.
