Solanke: I probably should have scored three goals, and we have a lot of work ahead
Dominic Solanke, Tottenham's forward, has confirmed that his team showed strong character during the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, noting that the performance in the first half was impressive, and that the players continued to fight despite playing with ten men in the second half.
Dominic Solanke said in statements to the "BBC" network on the "Match of the Day" program: "I can't say the result feels like a win. We played really well in the first half, we dominated most of it, and we should have been ahead by two goals."
He added: "In the second half, we were playing with ten men, yet we managed to come away with something from the match. This reflects the mentality of the team and the character of the players."
Tottenham's striker explained that the team wanted to correct the mistakes made in previous matches, especially when they were trailing without providing the appropriate response. He pointed out that being a man down and trailing by a goal made the task even more difficult.
Dominic Solanke said: "We have been behind by a goal before and didn't react to the situation in the right way, and we wanted to correct that. When you are a goal down and playing with a man down, it would be easy not to keep pushing for the win."
He added: "Maybe I should have scored three goals today. I wanted to take advantage of as many chances as possible, and I succeeded in scoring one goal, and I am grateful for that."
Regarding the red card against Bentancur: "Everything happened very quickly, and I haven't seen the clip again yet. But what happened shows the fighting spirit within the team. Everyone wants to do things the right way and show the required passion."
He concluded: "We still have a lot of work to do. The mentality and character were great today. We will eventually be able to correct things, and I believe we will deliver strong performances soon."
