Tottenham escape to Spain to save their season with De Zerbi
Tottenham are set to travel to Marbella, Spain, following their match against Manchester United on Saturday for a training camp aimed at correcting the team's course and regaining balance after a shaky start to the current season.
Tottenham sit bottom of the Premier League table after failing to secure a win in their first five matches, managing only two draws. It has been a tough start for Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi, who took charge of the team in late March.
De Zerbi hopes the camp, scheduled to take place in southern Spain, will give the team a new boost before the resumption of competitions, as well as providing an opportunity for the players to enhance their cohesion, especially given the significant changes that the squad has undergone during the summer transfer window.
Tottenham have nine days between their match against Manchester United and their next home game against Coventry, newly promoted to the Premier League, scheduled for Monday. This has prompted the coaching staff to take advantage of this period to hold a training camp.
Temperatures in Marbella are expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius, while forecasts indicate rain in Enfield, where Tottenham's training base is located. This will provide the team with different weather conditions to aid their preparations.
This step is unusual at this early stage of the season, especially after the international break, as English clubs usually resort to training camps in warmer areas during the winter.
Tottenham have spent over £250 million to strengthen their squad this summer by signing ten new players. However, the congested fixture schedule and the extended international break have reduced the time available for the new group to gel, especially after the arrivals of Savio, Tosin Adarabioyo, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Omar Marmoush during the last week of the transfer window.
