Tottenham target Benfica striker amid competition from FC Barcelona
Tottenham are targeting a move for Benfica striker Evangelos Pavlidis to bolster their attack, after the player caught the eye of the English club's scouts. However, FC Barcelona appears to be the more likely destination for him in 2027, according to TEAMtalk.
The 27-year-old Greek forward is having a standout season, scoring 14 goals and providing 3 assists in 13 matches across all competitions. He has netted 74 goals and provided 22 assists in 123 matches for SL Benfica, having joined the club in the summer of 2024 from Alkmaar for €18 million.
Tottenham have made signing a new striker a priority for January, but SL Benfica are not willing to let Pavlidis leave during the winter transfer window, delaying any potential deal until next summer. Aston Villa and Fulham are also competing for his signature, alongside FC Barcelona, Juventus, and AC Milan.
FC Barcelona appears to have the upper hand in the race, especially as the Catalan club may turn to Pavlidis after failing to sign Julián Alvarez last summer. The striker's contract with SL Benfica includes a release clause worth €100 million, which is equivalent to £85 million.
Tottenham, led by Roberto De Zerbi, are looking to bolster their attacking strength, with Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke potentially competing for a starting spot, given the likelihood of Richarlison's departure in January.
