Details of Carvajal's failed transfer to Getafe
Danny Carvajal's return to LaLiga has been halted after the Spanish defender passed medical tests ahead of joining Getafe, but the details of his contract raised concerns within the Spanish Football League due to the proposed salary amount.
According to AS, Dani Carvajal's salary has seen a significant decrease compared to what a player of his history and experience should earn, despite suffering from a series of injuries in recent times. This has prompted LaLiga to activate a contract evaluation committee.
New attempts to resolve the crisis are expected to begin on Monday, but the main obstacle lies with the "Verification Committee" of LaLiga, which includes independent experts in sports law and economics, and is responsible for determining the final value of the contract that Getafe can register Dani Carvajal with.
LaLiga officials explained the workings of the committee to AS, stating: "We resort to it when something catches our attention," noting that these cases are not frequent, but they may arise due to exceptional circumstances in some contracts.
According to the association, three independent experts are being consulted to determine whether the value stated in the contract matches the value that the player should receive. According to sources, the assessment for Carvajal came in higher than the figure that Getafe wanted to adopt.
Experts took several factors into account when determining the salary, including the player's age, athletic status and injuries sustained, the state of the transfer market, the length of the contract, individual awards achieved in recent years, the number of domestic and international titles won over the past three seasons, and the percentage of appearances in the previous season, alongside the level of the club and its financial situation.
LaLiga confirms that there is no "objective rule" that automatically determines the number, but the evaluation committee has the final say in such cases, according to its established criteria.
Getafe must adhere to the assessment set by the committee, as the economic control regulations adopted by all LaLiga clubs state that its decisions are 'non-appealable'.
Consequently, Getafe have a limited number of options to provide the financial space necessary to register Carvajal, primarily by reducing expenses, either through cutting salaries or structural costs, increasing revenues through new sponsors, or resorting to financial guarantees that allow for raising the salary cap.
