FC Barcelona's reaction to UEFA's statement on the Negreira case
FC Barcelona has responded to UEFA's statement regarding the Negreira case, confirming that what happened does not mean reopening the file or starting a new investigation.
UEFA has announced that it has received a large amount of documents from Real Madrid related to the ongoing investigation concerning FC Barcelona in the case involving José María Enríquez Negreira, the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees in the Spanish Football Federation. It noted that ethics and disciplinary inspectors will evaluate these documents as part of their ongoing review of the case.
Spanish newspaper 'Sport' reported that Real Madrid and media outlets close to the club used a UEFA statement to shed light on the issue, while the royal club issued a statement demanding that the investigation be expedited until its conclusion and that appropriate decisions be made based on the established facts.
In contrast, FC Barcelona responded with the phrase "it's all smoke", as the club believes UEFA only announced the receipt of documents submitted by Real Madrid, without mentioning the reopening of a previous case or the opening of a new one.
FC Barcelona maintains its position that the case will end without penalties, relying on UEFA's previous clarification that it will wait for a decision from the Spanish judiciary before taking any action. Sport indicates that the judicial investigation now seems to be in its final stages, as the judge has stopped accepting new extensions.
FC Barcelona believes that if there is no conviction from the Spanish judiciary, UEFA will not have the authority to punish the club. The club also points out that if UEFA had seen something unusual, it would not have renewed FC Barcelona's license to participate in its competitions.
