Neuer Claims 36th Title, Hints at Retirement
Manuel Neuer has entered the history of German football in a grand way, raising his tally to 36 titles in his career after Bayern Munich won the Supercup against Borussia Dortmund, making him the most decorated German player of all time.
The veteran goalkeeper has surpassed his former teammate Thomas Müller, who had reached 35 titles in October 2025, making Neuer the sole record holder among German players.
After the match, Neuer expressed his happiness with the achievement, confirming that the victory came against a strong opponent on their home ground. He said: "It's a great feeling, we faced the second-best team in Germany on their turf, and such matches are always filled with struggle. I believe the better team won today. The Supercup always represents a good start to the season to know our position and level."
Bayern Munich's goalkeeper spoke about the pre-season period, explaining that the differing return dates of players due to the World Cup posed additional challenges for the team, before the coaching staff managed to integrate the new elements effectively.
Neuer added: "The players returned at different times due to the World Cup, and we tried to make the best of this situation, alongside integrating the new players. We worked hard, the preparation period was good, and we are now ready for the new season."
Manuel Neuer has hinted at the possibility of retiring from professional football. In a recent interview, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper stated, "I have to evaluate my situation and see what the future holds for me."
The German goalkeeper has not ruled out the possibility that this season could be his last in the game, leaving his future open-ended. He emphasized that his priority right now is to enjoy the season with Bayern Munich.
Neuer stated in this regard: "Now it's time to enjoy this season with the team, and then we'll see, but yes, it's possible that this could be my last season."
