Spain Plans to Extend Luis de la Fuente's Contract Until 2030 with Salary Increase

The Spanish Football Federation is planning to extend national team coach Luis de la Fuente's contract until 2030, a move that reflects the federation's desire to maintain technical stability for the team in the coming years, after the Spanish coach led his country to victory in the 2026 World Cup, alongside titles in the 2023 UEFA Nations League and the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

According to AS, the President of the Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Lozano, has made the continuation of De La Fuente a top priority. He aims to extend the current contract, which runs until the end of Euro 2028, by an additional two years to cover the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Negotiations between the two parties are expected to begin after the summer break.

The plan is not limited to extending the contract duration; negotiations are also aimed at enhancing the coach's annual salary to reflect his new status following his achievements with the national team.

Estadio Deportivo reports that De la Fuente is currently earning around €2 million annually, while the next increase could elevate him to the financial level previously held by former Spanish coaches like Vicente del Bosque and Luis Enrique, whose salaries were higher than his current one.

Luis Rubiales confirmed his desire for the coach to continue, stating that the federation wants to "improve and extend" the relationship with De La Fuente. He pointed out that the 2030 edition represents a historic date for Spain, and he hopes the coach will be part of this project.

Current data indicates a shared desire to continue cooperation, with no urgency to finalize the agreement before official negotiations begin.

This move comes after an exceptional tenure for the coach since taking charge of the national team in December 2022; he led Spain to the UEFA Nations League, then the Euro 2024, before adding the 2026 World Cup to his record, making the prospect of his continuation until the 2030 World Cup one of the key issues on the table of the Spanish Football Federation.
