Spain to Extend Luis de la Fuente's Contract Until 2030 and Increase Salary

The Spanish Football Federation is planning to extend the contract of national team coach Luis de la Fuente until 2030, a move that reflects the federation's desire to maintain technical stability for the team in the coming years, after the Spanish coach led his country to victory in the 2026 World Cup, along with the UEFA Nations League titles in 2023 and the UEFA Euro 2024.

According to AS, Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Lozano has made the continuation of Luis de la Fuente a top priority, seeking to extend the current contract, which runs until the end of Euro 2028, by an additional two years to cover the 2030 World Cup hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Negotiations between the two parties are expected to begin after the summer break.

The plan is not limited to extending the contract duration; negotiations are also aimed at enhancing the coach's annual salary to reflect his new status following his achievements with the national team.

According to Estadio Deportivo, De la Fuente is currently earning around two million euros annually, but the next increase could elevate him to the financial level of former Spanish coaches like Vicente del Bosque and Luis Enrique, who both earned more than his current salary.

Luis Rubiales confirmed his desire for the coach to stay, stating that the federation wants to "improve and extend" the relationship with De La Fuente, noting that the 2030 edition represents a historic milestone for Spain, and he hopes the coach will be part of this project.

Current data indicates a shared desire to continue cooperation, with no urgency to finalize the agreement before official negotiations begin.

This move comes after an extraordinary journey for the coach since taking charge of the national team in December 2022; he led Spain to the UEFA Nations League, then the Euro 2024, before adding the 2026 World Cup to his record, making his project to continue until the 2030 World Cup one of the key issues on the table of the Spanish Football Federation.
