FIFA Ends Gianni Infantino's Investment Project
The New York Post has revealed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino's project to sell a minority stake in the new commercial entity associated with the World Cup has completely collapsed, following the withdrawal of investors, including JP Morgan from the process.
According to the report, the withdrawal of investors has led to the project's halt, thus ending FIFA's plan aimed at creating a new investment model to generate additional revenue from the World Cup.
FIFA has previously announced the launch of a new company named FIFA Forward Enterprise, which is fully owned by the international federation. This company will manage commercial activities and events, while FIFA retains complete control over all sporting and organizational aspects.
The plan includes selling a non-controlling minority stake in the new company as part of a deal valued at approximately $20 billion, with a target of raising $4.2 billion from strategic investors, all profits to be reinvested in the development of football worldwide.
The initiative has sparked widespread opposition within football circles, with several continental federations rejecting it, including UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation, and CONMEBOL. It ultimately received a fatal blow with the withdrawal of investors and the suspension of the project, according to the American report.
