Ali Jassim Awaits European Offer, Sets August Deadline for Future Decision

Ali Jassim, the Iraqi national team player, is awaiting a swift resolution regarding his future during the current summer transfer window, having convinced himself not to return to Como, the Italian club preparing to compete in next season's UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth in Serie A.

Ali Jassim, 22, has a contract with Italian club Como that runs until June 30, 2027. He is still tied to the club for another season, despite being out of favor with coach Cesc Fabregas, who has preferred to loan him out on several occasions, the latest being to Al-Najma in Saudi Arabia.

In an agreement between the parties, Ali Jassem has decided not to renew his loan with Al-Najma. This decision comes as Como's management aims to sell him for over one million dollars, seeking to gain financial benefit from the deal this summer, rather than risking his departure for free next summer.

Ali Jassim is currently in Baghdad to visit his family and oversee his investment project in Iraq, while also awaiting a decision on his future in the coming period. The player had previously rejected an offer from Ukrainian club Polissya due to his lack of conviction about playing in Ukraine.

In addition to the Ukrainian offer, the player has received several offers from clubs in the Iraqi Premier League, most notably Zakho and his former team Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, where he shone impressively in the AFC Champions League, before this opened the door for him to move to Como in Italy in the summer of 2024.

Ali Jassem has not yet settled his future. Despite the attractive financial offer he received from Zakho, he is not keen on playing in the Iraqi Premier League at this time, as he awaits a professional offer from outside Iraq, preferably in Europe. Should he decide to return to the Iraqi league, his former club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya will be at the top of his options.

The player is taking advantage of his time in Baghdad by training with Al-Student, who are continuing their preparations for the new season, in order to maintain his physical readiness before his next experience. It is hoped that he will finalize his destination in the coming days, especially since he has set early August as the deadline for making his decision.

Ali Jassim has played two matches with the Iraqi national team in the 2026 World Cup. He participated against Norway for 73 minutes and assisted in scoring Iraq's only goal. He also played 58 minutes against Senegal, but missed the match against France due to a lack of physical readiness following a neck injury.
