New Zealand Coach: We Want to Make History Against Egypt and the Match Will Be Tough

Thursday 18-06-2026
Darren Bazeley, the head coach of the New Zealand national team, spoke about his team's upcoming match against Egypt in the World Cup, noting that the encounter will be challenging.

The New Zealand team will face Egypt early next Monday in the second round of the group stage of the World Cup.

Bazley said in statements to the New Zealand site "Stuff": "Looking to the future, the level of performance has been set. This is the standard that the players have set for themselves, and they have proven that we are capable of delivering this type of football in World Cup matches, which is great for us."

He added, "There are many positives in the performance we delivered, and I believe it changed many people's opinions about us and the expectations for the New Zealand team. There are still some areas we need to improve, and we will take them into account before the next match, but overall, we can be very positive after securing a point in the World Cup."

Bazilli continued his statements by saying: "It's a match we do not fear. It's true that Egypt has big names like Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, who are global stars, but we played against them two years ago and delivered a very good match despite the absence of several of our key players."

He continued: "It will be a tough match, as we know that every team in the World Cup strives to achieve the best results. Egypt and Belgium have very distinguished players, and we must be able to handle them defensively."
