Goalkeeper Position Troubles Barcelona

Barcelona's current efforts are not limited to searching for a new striker, but also extend to resolving the goalkeeper situation, which continues to raise many questions within the club before the start of the next season, given the presence of several goalkeepers with contracts whose futures have yet to be determined.

The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' indicated that Juan Garcia is considered the main goalkeeper and the first choice for coach Hans Flick, having established his position within the team and becoming the goalkeeper that Barcelona will rely on in the upcoming season. However, the more critical issue currently involves identifying the backup goalkeeper.

According to the newspaper, Szczesny enjoys support within the club to continue due to his vast experience, yet the discussion about his role in the coming season has not been conclusively settled, despite the Polish goalkeeper expressing his desire to continue his journey with Barcelona.

At the same time, Barcelona is awaiting a decision regarding several young goalkeepers. Astralaga's contract expires in June 2026, while the club has the option to extend the contract for an additional two years, a decision that has not yet been activated or communicated to the player, with the deadline remaining open until June 30.

The same source added that Inaki Pena, who played with Elche, has a contract extending until 2029, while Yako experienced a turbulent season with Andorra, having secured a starting spot for a period before losing it later due to some mistakes.

The future of Marc-Andre ter Stegen remains an open issue within Barcelona, with his loan period to Girona nearing its end, noting that his contract with the Catalan club extends until 2028.

Uncertainty also continues regarding Kouchin's future with the reserve team, as it is still unclear whether he will continue next season after his participation with Barcelona Athletic saw fluctuations between being included in the lists and being absent during the past season.
