Bournemouth delivers a blow to Aston Villa ahead of clash with Barcelona

Aston Villa have been eliminated from the EFL Cup in the fourth round after suffering a heavy defeat to AFC Bournemouth, in a surprising result that halted their positive run under manager Unai Emery.

The loss marks the end of an impressive streak for Aston Villa, who had achieved seven victories and one draw in their last eight matches, before suffering this defeat at the Vitality Stadium, thus exiting the competition early.

The match saw the Catalan forward Alvaro Rodríguez, from the city of Palamós, shine as he scored the final and decisive goal for AFC Bournemouth, benefiting from his starting position. This goal provides a morale boost for the forward, who has not had regular playing time this season, noting that he also scored in the match against SK Sturm Graz in the UEFA Europa League.

This defeat comes just a week before the highly anticipated match between Aston Villa and FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League at Spotify Camp Nou, representing a morale blow for the English team ahead of the European test. Emery's side will play their next match against AFC Bournemouth, who also exited the EFL Cup after losing at home to Crystal Palace.
