Guardiola: Winning the Title is Not in Our Hands, and We Performed Well
Tuesday 05-05-2026
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola spoke in a press conference following the 3-3 draw against Everton in the 35th round of the English Premier League, at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The coach said, "We delivered a great performance. We played exceptionally well in the first half, truly, our performance was excellent. In the second half, they raised their level of play, and perhaps we weren't as enthusiastic, and then, of course, we conceded a goal. After their comeback, they played a truly English style - very spirited, very intense in tackles. But overall, we performed very well."

He added about the first half: "It was harder for them to break through our defense than it was for us. We were fantastic. We reached the goal line many times, took shots, and had opportunities. It wasn't easy because they play very well defensively, with ten players behind the ball, then transition to attack with Beto and Dewsbury-Hall. We take the draw point and will keep pushing until the end of the match."

Regarding Kane not receiving a red card after his challenge on Doku: "...analysts can say that."

He added: "Overall, we were good in our style of play. We reached the left side, and Doku was fantastic." Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on the opportunities, especially as we did in the first half. Facing Everton away is always challenging."

He added: "Are you satisfied with the strong comeback? Winning is better than losing, and this shows the quality of the team they represent."

Regarding the competition for the title: "It's not in our hands. It used to be, but now the situation has changed. We still have matches ahead. We'll see what happens."

He added: "In the end, we conceded the first goal, and after the corner that wasn't a corner. In the end, we showed that we would keep fighting."

Regarding Doku's goals: "Fantastic goals. The final third of the pitch is where we create these opportunities, it's a wonderful and distinctive goal. So, it was tough. The match was physical. We were close to scoring, but we wasted the first half in capitalizing on the opportunities better."

He concluded: "Overall, it was a very good match."
