Perez Admits Mistake in Coach Selections at Real Madrid
Tuesday 21-04-2026
Press reports revealed that Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez, conducted an internal evaluation of the team's status this season, during which he admitted to bearing part of the responsibility for the decline in results.

According to the newspaper “ABC Deportes,” Perez believes that the failures are primarily due to his choices at the level of the coaching staff, referring to coaches Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, asserting that the problem was not in the quality of the players.

The Real Madrid president believes that the current squad has sufficient capabilities to compete at the highest levels, and that the greater responsibility lies with the technical decisions within the coaching staff, rather than the team members.

According to reports, Perez is considering making official statements in the coming period to clarify his position to the fans, amid the escalating debate over the identity of the club's new head coach.

Several names are being circulated within the club's corridors as candidates to take over the coaching leadership, including Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino, and Didier Deschamps, along with other names on the table, while the final decision rests with Perez.

Real Madrid had exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage against Bayern Munich with a score of 6-4, and is also struggling domestically, occupying second place in the league with 70 points, 9 points behind leaders Barcelona, making the competition for the title more difficult in the remaining rounds.
