Flick: We Move Step by Step Towards the League, and the Most Important Thing is Building a Strong Project for Barcelona
Tuesday 21-04-2026
Hans Flick, the head coach of Barcelona, spoke at the press conference ahead of the match against Celta Vigo in the Spanish League, noting that the team must proceed step by step, emphasizing that the current focus is solely on the upcoming match and not on securing the title in El Clasico.

Flick spoke about the team's feelings: "We have a young team, and the elimination was painful, but we must perform better in the matches and prepare for the next season. There are things that need improvement. We played well, and I am proud of the team that gave everything. We need to focus on the league and we want to win it. It won't be easy, but we must give our best."

Regarding his goals with Barcelona, he stated: "It's a big dream. I would like to win the Champions League and make the right decisions in the transfer market without mistakes, as the team is young and well-structured. Also, I want to be the coach when the stadium is complete. I am very happy here; it's a big family. After being eliminated from the Champions League, we must focus on what's left, and if we achieve that, it will be good."

Regarding his future and contract renewal, he said: "This is what I want, this will be the last step in my career. I feel good and I want to renew, but this is not the time to talk about it."

He added about the team's mindset: "Only this championship remains, we had a few days' rest, and the atmosphere is great. Step by step, match by match, we must deliver our best performance. We learn from previous defeats, and I feel we are capable of doing so."

Regarding his connection with Barça, Flick said: "I enjoyed my time at Bayern and the national team, but here I feel everything is better. My family and the staff are enjoying it here, and it's great to see the team. This is the motivation; it's Barcelona, and we must be united and try to win the Champions League."

He continued talking about evaluating the current season: "You decide that. When we arrived, we did not expect to be in a position to compete for four titles, not just to win, but also the manner of winning. The club and the fans are happy, and the most important thing is the style."

He added regarding planning for the next season: "We talk daily with Deco over the phone, this is normal, and we are also dealing with the upcoming season."

Flick continued his remarks about some young players, saying about player Bardghji: "He is a great professional player, the situation is not easy for him, and he expects more minutes. Sometimes things go this way. He has one of the best players in the world ahead of him. He is an exceptional player, developing a lot. I told him we would talk at the end of the season. Everyone is important, and we need to keep them motivated."

The German coach continued his discussion about the transfer market, saying: "It's not the right time to talk about that. We have some clear ideas, but now is not the time," in response to a question regarding the number 9 striker position and new signings.

When asked, "When do you want to win the league? In the Clasico?" Flick added, "I don't remember how it was in Germany; it was during the COVID period, sorry. We have to take it step by step. The most important thing is the next match and the one after that. Real Madrid will also fight. These things don't concern me. The league is not decided yet, and we must win it as soon as possible."
