Laporta: No Need to Sign Just for the Sake of Signing, La Masia is Our Strength and Future
Thursday 02-04-2026
Joan Laporta, the elected president of Barcelona Club, discussed the latest developments in a comprehensive interview with Món Esport, where he touched on the future of coach Hansi Flick, plans to strengthen the team, the Spotify Camp Nou stadium project, the club's relationship with Catalonia, among other topics.

Regarding the renewal of the German coach's contract, Laporta explained that it was agreed to postpone talks until the end of the season: "We will talk calmly at the end of the season. He is an honest and professional man, and the renewal is deserved, but he prefers to assess the situation before making a decision. If we decide on an additional year, it is guaranteed."

As for loaned players like Rashford and Cancelo, Laporta delegated the decision to Deco, emphasizing the club's policy of relying on La Masia players: "There is no need to go to the transfer market just to sign, and we must first look at what we have to improve the squad if necessary."

Regarding the elections, Laporta mentioned celebrating his victory without harming others, clarifying that some incidents during the election campaign were "dirty play," and that there were hidden interests trying to influence the club.

Laporta also defended the Limak company in the Spotify Camp Nou new stadium construction project, indicating the possibility of temporarily returning to the Lluís Companys Stadium if needed.

On historical issues, the elected president emphasized his keenness to protect Barcelona's history, affirming that the club will always remain "more than just a club."
