Vinicius Supports Yamal After Racism Incident
Brazilian star Vinicius Junior, Real Madrid player, expressed his support for Barcelona player Lamine Yamal, following the controversy sparked by racist chants during the friendly match between Spain and Egypt, which was held at the RCDE Stadium, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo.'
Vinicius interacted by liking the post shared by Lamine Yamal on his social media accounts, in which he expressed his discontent with the chants that were circulated during the match.
Yamal explained in his message: 'I am Muslim, praise be to God, on the field I heard chants saying those who do not jump are Muslim, I know it was directed at the opposing team and not personally at me, but it remains disrespectful and unacceptable.'
The Barcelona player added: 'I understand not all fans are like this, but using religion as a means of mockery shows ignorance and racism, football should be a space for enjoyment and encouragement, not for insulting others because of their identity or beliefs.'
Solidarity with Yamal was not limited to Vinicius alone but extended to several figures within the football world, amid widespread condemnation of the offensive chants witnessed during the match.
