Juan Garcia Approaches Zamora Trophy with Barcelona with Outstanding Numbers
Sunday 22-03-2026
Barcelona goalkeeper Juan Garcia continues to deliver remarkable performances this season, becoming the leading candidate for the Zamora Trophy as the best goalkeeper in La Liga, given his clear superiority over his competitors in statistics.

The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that coach Hans Flick confirmed Juan Garcia's participation in the match against Rayo Vallecano, giving the goalkeeper a new opportunity to strengthen his chances in the award race, especially after recovering from discomfort in his left calf muscle during the Newcastle match, which was only a minor injury.

Juan Garcia leads the La Liga goalkeepers in terms of goals conceded per match, with an average of 0.77 goals per game, having conceded only 17 goals in 22 matches. He also excels in the number of clean sheets with 11 matches, the highest number so far.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the goalkeeper needs to play six additional matches out of the remaining 10 in the league to reach the minimum requirement of 28 matches to officially compete for the award, which seems within his reach given the coaching staff's reliance on him as a key player.

Belgian Thibaut Courtois comes in second place with an average of 0.86 goals per match after participating in 28 matches, but he faces difficulty in improving his numbers due to an injury that will keep him out for a period ranging from four to six weeks. Meanwhile, Slovenian Jan Oblak ranks third with an average of 0.96 after conceding 25 goals in 26 matches, and he will not participate in the Madrid Derby.

The newspaper also noted that Juan Garcia also boasts the best clean sheet rate in the league, having kept a clean sheet in 11 out of 22 matches, averaging one clean sheet every two matches, while Courtois achieved the same number of clean sheets but in 28 matches.

In a related context, the report explained that the goalkeeper, who previously won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, seeks to add a new achievement to his career with Barcelona after winning the Spanish Super Cup, by competing for the league and UEFA Champions League titles, in addition to the Zamora Trophy.

Juan Garcia has a historic opportunity, as only Andoni Zubizarreta in the 1986/1987 season and Claudio Bravo in the 2014/2015 season have won the award in their first season with Barcelona, which enhances the potential value of the achievement if he wins.

The report confirmed that the Barcelona goalkeeper possesses all the attributes to continue excelling until the end of the season, given his technical stability and the coaching staff's confidence, making him the closest to winning the most prominent individual award for goalkeepers in La Liga.
