Barcelona Changes Preparation Plan and Returns to European Camps in Summer
Friday 20-03-2026
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' revealed that Barcelona has decided to change its approach for the preparation period for the next season by returning to hold a traditional training camp in Europe instead of the summer tours it has been accustomed to in recent years.

The newspaper explained that this decision comes based on the desire of coach Hans Flick, who prefers preparation in a classic style in a calm environment, similar to the historical camps the team used to hold previously, with Germany being the most likely destination during the first weeks of July, with the possibility of international players being absent due to their involvement in the World Cup or taking their holidays.

This is the first such approach since 2021, as the team will not undertake a two-week summer tour as usual, but will suffice with holding the camp, followed by playing some friendly matches sporadically.

This change is due to two main factors, the first being the preparation period coinciding with the World Cup, which will affect the readiness of some of the team's key players and limit their ability to participate in external tours. Additionally, the United States, which was a usual destination, has been excluded due to the heavy pressure on the football market there as a result of organizing the tournament, a situation similar to what happened last summer during the Club World Cup when the tour was held in Japan and South Korea.

The second factor is Flick's conviction of the importance of traditional camps in building the team physically and technically before the start of the season, especially after evaluating previous tour experiences, where he expressed satisfaction with the 2024 tour in the United States, compared to less satisfaction with the 2025 tour in Asia, which almost got canceled due to issues related to the sponsor's payment.

In a related context, Barcelona will compensate for the absence of the summer tour by playing friendly matches after the camp ends, to compensate for part of the revenues that were estimated at about 15 million euros.

The option of holding a friendly match in Peru also remains, a confrontation that was agreed upon previously and was planned to take place after the team's league match in Miami before returning to Spain. At the same time, playing a friendly match in Asia after the European camp ends is not ruled out.
