Real Madrid Surpasses Barcelona in Penalty Kicks

Real Madrid leads by 26 penalty kicks over Barcelona during the last five seasons of La Liga, since the start of the 2021/2022 season, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

The newspaper explained that the royal team executed 56 penalty kicks during that period, compared to only 30 for the Catalan team, in a tally that includes five seasons, noting that the fifth season is still ongoing. During this period, Real Madrid won the La Liga title twice, and Barcelona also twice.

Despite the clear difference in the number of penalty kicks, the offensive superiority was in favor of Barcelona, which scored 382 goals since the beginning of the 2021/2022 season, compared to 371 goals for Real Madrid during the same period.

In the current season, Real Madrid set a record for the number of penalty kicks awarded after the first 24 rounds, having executed 13 penalty kicks. In contrast, Barcelona has played 23 matches so far and has been awarded only 6 penalty kicks, less than half of what their direct rival received. However, the Catalan team is offensively superior this season, scoring 63 goals compared to 53 for Real Madrid, despite playing one less match.

In the previous seasons, Real Madrid came second in the penalty kick standings during the 2021/2022 season with 12 kicks, while Barcelona ranked eighth with 7 kicks, and the royal team won the title that season.

In the 2022/2023 season, Real Madrid topped the penalty kick standings with 12 kicks, while Barcelona was second to last with only two kicks, but they ended the season crowned with the league title.

As for the 2023/2024 season, it was the only one during this period where Barcelona executed more penalty kicks than Real Madrid, with 7 compared to 5, as the Catalan team ranked sixth in the penalty kick standings, while Real Madrid came in tenth, before the latter won the La Liga title.

In the 2024/2025 season, Real Madrid returned to top the list of penalty kicks awarded with 14 kicks, compared to 8 for Barcelona, which ranked fifth. The Catalan team scored 102 goals in that season compared to 78 for Real Madrid, with a difference of 24 goals, succeeding in securing the league title in their favor.
