Flick: My Choice in the Elections Will Be Secret, and This Is Our Goal Tomorrow
Saturday 24-01-2026
Barcelona coach Hans Flick appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Real Oviedo in the 21st round of the Spanish League, which will take place at Camp Nou.

The coach said in his talk about the Oviedo match: "We are playing at home, and this is always a positive factor. We know we need the points and the goal is clear: to win. But regardless of the opponent, the match will depend a lot on us and on how we start the game. They are a team that usually scores early, so we must be at the peak of our focus from the first minute."

He added about the presidential elections: "Since my arrival, and over the past year and a half, the club has taken significant steps forward. There hasn't been massive investment, but good decisions have been made in signings, and there is reliance on La Masia players, giving them minutes to play for development. The situation is positive, and many things have been done well. The most important thing now is to maintain this stability and trust in the project's continued direction."

He added, "The elections are not a decision in my hands, but I was aware of it because the president informed me. Holding the elections as soon as possible is good news. In any case, this should not affect the team; we must focus on playing football and competing to achieve results. If I vote as a member of Barcelona, I will do so, but my choice will be confidential."

Regarding the keys to tomorrow's match: "There isn't enough time to work on that in training; it's something talked about more than practiced. Against Slavia Prague, the circumstances were different; it was extremely cold, and I don't want to make excuses. The opponent has many tall players, and it's difficult to defend against such situations. They move the ball quickly, and there's not always enough time to respond, which can happen. I have complete confidence in the team. The most important thing is good positioning and knowing how to use the body. Historically, Barcelona hasn't been a team with many tall players, but we must know how to handle that."

He continued: "Araujo? We need to manage his playing minutes and assess his physical condition. He is in a much better state and could be an option to start, but we will know more clearly tomorrow."

Regarding the defensive issues: "We made some mistakes, and that's why we conceded goals. It might be a matter of focus; we need to be at the highest level of attention throughout the 90 minutes. We've seen other teams defend with all their might, and sometimes, due to our good offensive performance, it seems like the match is under control. But defensively, we must maintain focus at every moment."

Regarding Gavi's return: "I see him almost daily, and he is training very well and improving a lot. He is gaining strength, fitness, and muscle mass, and is gradually reaching a better condition. We must be patient and progress step by step without rushing. We have complete confidence in the work of the technical and medical staff because he has a very long career ahead of him. If he can return in February, that would be great, but the most important thing is for him to return in the best possible condition."

He added, "Do you know the details of the electoral process? I know one or two of the preliminary candidates, but right now I'm focused on the present. When the time comes, I will look into the details and decide my vote."

Regarding Pau Cubarsi: "He has just turned 19 and has played a significant number of minutes in recent matches. It's natural that he may not always be at his best in some moments. However, he has tremendous potential and is considered one of the most promising defenders in Spain."

He concluded on Pedri's absence and Fermín's brilliance: "Fermín is a player capable of changing the course of matches, and we need him to maintain this level. Sometimes he can play a bit more calmly with the ball, but this intensity is part of his style. You can never predict what might happen when he's on the field. He gives the team a great deal of vitality, excels at exploiting spaces excellently, and is very dangerous near the goal. He creates opportunities and also works defensively through high pressing. He is a very good option for the team."
