Barcelona Tops Europe in Number of Academy Graduates in Major Leagues
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" revealed that FC Barcelona continues to affirm its position as one of the leading European clubs in player development, after topping the list of clubs that have contributed the most academy graduates to the top five leagues in 2025, according to a study released by the CIES Football Observatory.
According to the report, 40 players who graduated from Barcelona's academy participated in La Liga, the English Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 over the past year. Academy graduates are defined as players who spent at least three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21.
Among them, 10 players have played with Barcelona's first team, which is the highest recorded number. They are: Kobarci, Balde, Casado, Bernal, Gavi, Fermin, Olmo, Lamine Yamal, Dro, and Jofre Torrents.
The newspaper explained that Barcelona topped the rankings, ahead of Real Madrid, which came second with 35 players. Paris Saint-Germain ranked third with 31 players, followed by French club Rennes in fourth with 29 players, and Ajax in fifth with 27 players.
The report also highlighted that clubs with a strong local identity, such as Barcelona, Real Sociedad, and Athletic Bilbao, are the most reliant on players from their own academies this season, further confirming the strength of the Catalan club's development model.
