Barcelona Transfers Bad November to Real Madrid
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" highlighted the significant shift at the top of La Liga, noting how the "bad November" crisis coined by Hans Flick last season to describe Barcelona's decline has now moved to Real Madrid this year under the leadership of Xabi Alonso.
According to the newspaper, Real Madrid was leading by five points after their 2-1 victory in the Clasico, but they lost the top spot after four rounds in which they only earned six points, while Barcelona collected a full 12 points with wins against Elche, Celta, Athletic Bilbao, and Alavés.
The newspaper explained that Barcelona playing their matches before Real Madrid helped them close the gap and rise to the top of the table, as they defeated Alavés 3-1 before Real Madrid stumbled against Girona with a 1-1 draw. It also pointed to the refereeing controversy in Real Madrid's 2-2 draw with Elche, which involved a handball by Bellingham and a foul by Vinícius on goalkeeper Iñaki Peña, neither of which was reviewed by video technology.
Barcelona will face Atlético Madrid on Tuesday, while Real Madrid will visit Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, before both teams play two more rounds that could give Barcelona an additional opportunity to increase the pressure on their rival.
The newspaper confirmed that Barcelona regained the top spot in the league after 14 rounds, benefiting from their strong resurgence and Real Madrid's poor results during a bad November.
