Will Barcelona Avoid the Player Registration Crisis with Juan Garcia?
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Barcelona goalkeeper Juan Garcia is officially registered for the full 2025/2026 season, and the player registration crisis will not be repeated as it happened with Dani Olmo on December 31, 2024, due to Ter Stegen's long-term injury.
The newspaper explained that Garcia's registration came after paying the release clause for the transfer to Barcelona, serving as compensation for Stegen's absence which exceeded five months. This allows the club to cover the Spanish goalkeeper's salary using 80% of Stegen's salary, approximately 9.6 million euros out of the 12 million euros the German goalkeeper receives.
The newspaper confirmed that these regulations prevent Ter Stegen from returning to play before the end of his absence period, to avoid exposing the club to a hefty fine of about 29 million euros if Barcelona violates the player registration conditions for injured players.
Mundo Deportivo also pointed out that the end of the absence period will enable coach Hans Flick to rely on Garcia and Stegen, in addition to the Polish goalkeeper Szczesny, providing the team with multiple options in the goalkeeper position during the current season.
The report confirmed that Garcia's early registration reflects Barcelona's commitment to adhering to La Liga regulations and avoiding financial and administrative crises, ensuring the team's stability in the goalkeeper position throughout the season.
