Barcelona's Crisis in Facing Major Teams
Thursday 27-11-2025
'Mundo Deportivo' confirmed that Barcelona's performance under Hans Flick declines when facing major teams, following recent defeats against Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 and Chelsea 3-0 in the Champions League, and Real Madrid 2-1 in La Liga, results that are completely different from the 2024/2025 season, when the team was competing strongly against Europe's top clubs and achieving frequent victories.

The newspaper mentioned that last season, Barcelona played 18 matches against major competitors across the league, cup, super cup, and Champions League, winning 11 matches and losing only 3, although one of those losses led to elimination against Inter, while clearly defeating clubs such as Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Real Madrid, Benfica, and Atletico.

This season, the situation is different, but the club remains optimistic about the possibility of correcting mistakes. In La Liga, Barcelona trails Real Madrid by only one point, while in the Champions League they have collected 7 points out of 15 in the first five rounds, needing to win the remaining three matches to secure direct qualification among the top eight teams; otherwise, they will resort to the playoffs.

The newspaper pointed out that Barcelona's dressing room does not consider the defeat against Chelsea catastrophic, citing Paris Saint-Germain's situation last season, which was worse at this time but ended the season as champions.

It added that the team achieved two wins in Europe this season against Newcastle 2-1 and Olympiacos 6-1, and drew with Club Brugge 3-3, but lost to Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, accumulating 7 points, which is a better rate than Paris Saint-Germain's last season.

The newspaper continued that the recent results place Barcelona before a major challenge in restoring confidence and performance against top teams to ensure genuine competition in the Champions League.
