Messi: I Will Return to Barcelona, and This Is What I Have Always Wished For
The Catalan newspaper "Sport" honored the Argentine star Lionel Messi, current Inter Miami player and former Barcelona player, with the "Most Loved in Barcelona's History" award.
Joan Vehils, director of "Sport" newspaper, traveled to Miami to present Messi with this award, before they watched a video together in which the fans expressed their gratitude for the years he spent at Barcelona, the city that will always welcome him warmly upon his return.
Messi said in his speech: "Honestly... we went through a lot together, good things and others that were not so good. This is natural during such a long career; not every moment is beautiful, and there are difficult times. But it has always been my home, my place, and my family. I wished to spend my entire career there without having to leave for another club... and to play only there in Europe."
The Argentine star added: "We experienced many moments with Barcelona, both beautiful and not so beautiful... but it remains my home, my place, and my audience."
Regarding his departure from the club, he said: "Unfortunately, things went differently, but all those shared moments will remain an eternal memory. I am very grateful for this award. It has been a long time since I went to Barcelona or to the stadium. I had to leave the club without fans because of the pandemic year, and it was a strange year. I have many beautiful memories, so I thank all the people of Barcelona. And of course, I have a special love for everyone there."
He concluded: "I will definitely return to Barcelona, I will be present in the stadium as another fan, following the team and the club and cheering like any lover. I will probably stay here (Inter Miami) for a few more years, but we will return to Barcelona, because as I have always said: it is my place and my home. We miss it a lot, so we will return, I will be there as a fan, as a lover of the team, following what they do."
