Pedri's Injury Forces Flick to Reshape Barcelona's Midfield
Thursday 30-10-2025
Barcelona's team is facing a new crisis after their Spanish player Pedri suffered an injury, adding to a long list of absences that have hit the squad this season, which has reached 15 injuries so far, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo".

The absence of Pedri, who is considered one of the key pillars of the midfield in the formation of German coach Hans Flick, will directly affect the team's balance and style of play, especially in light of the absence of his teammate Gavi as well.

The newspaper indicated that Flick has begun to explore several options to compensate for Pedri's absence, as the German coach has three players in defensive midfield positions: Frenkie de Jong, Casado, and Marc Bernal, along with three attacking players: Fermin, Olmo (who is nearing a return), and Drew.

It is likely that Flick will rely on a midfield trio consisting of de Jong and Casado in the holding positions, with Fermin in a more advanced role, while considering the possibility of pushing de Jong forward to fill Pedri's role on the field, due to his vision and ability to connect the lines.

The newspaper confirmed that de Jong is the most prominent option for Flick in the upcoming period, especially given his physical readiness and the variety of roles he can play on the pitch, as the Dutch player has participated in 11 official matches this season (8 in La Liga and 3 in the Champions League), with a total of 854 minutes played, reflecting his importance in the team's system.

Pedri's absence represents a new test for coach Hans Flick, who will need to restore balance in the midfield amid recurring absences, relying more on de Jong to lead the team and control the pace of play in the upcoming matches.
