Sorg Discusses Barcelona's Mistakes in the Clasico
Sunday 26-10-2025
Assistant coach Markus Sorg made statements following the Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu, where head coach Hans Flick was absent from the bench due to suspension.

Sorg talked about the match and his team's performance, saying: "We made some mistakes and couldn't create enough chances or play in one-on-one situations. We did everything and played with only two defenders to increase opportunities, but Real Madrid is good at counter-attacks, and we couldn't score the second goal."

Regarding Lamine Yamal's performance, Sorg explained: "It wasn't easy for him. We talked to him at halftime and told him we needed him in one-on-one situations, but he didn't get many opportunities. Real Madrid defended well and did everything to stop him, which is normal. He performed well despite his previous injury and needs more matches to be at his best. We must give him time and support to regain his form."

He added about the match atmosphere's effect on Yamal: "The opponent focused on Lamine and applied double marking to prevent him from entering the penalty area or finishing attacks. He might have been a little affected by the atmosphere at the Bernabeu, but he is very enthusiastic and played well, despite the difficulty of the match for him."

Sorg also spoke about the scuffles that occurred after the match: "I don't know who started it; there was a lot of shouting. We have to accept what happened and focus on the upcoming matches."

Regarding the absence of Robert Lewandowski, Sorg said: "He is a real striker and a remarkable scorer, and we certainly miss him. But injuries are a normal part of football. We are not looking for excuses, whether regarding absences or refereeing. The league is long, and we are not afraid of the current situation; we still have 28 matches ahead of us."

He concluded his remarks by discussing the changes made, saying: "We wanted to change the structure in the end, which is why Rashford played as a striker. We tried to make defensive and offensive changes, but we have to be honest; they didn't succeed as expected."
