Support for Hans Flick's Punishment and His Absence from the Clasico
The Appeals Committee of the Spanish Football Federation confirmed today the validity of the suspension imposed on coach Hans Flick, the manager of Barcelona, and did not accept the appeal submitted by the Catalan club to annul the punishment imposed on him, according to what was reported by the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.
Flick received a second yellow card in the final minutes of the match between Barcelona and Girona, which led to a one-match suspension. The committee explained that the first yellow card was issued in the 90th minute for applauding in protest against the referee's decision, and the second was issued immediately afterward for making a gesture of objection. Since the punishment resulted from two yellow cards and not a direct red card, a one-match suspension was applied.
The Appeals Committee confirmed the validity of the report by referee Jesus Gil Manzano, based on Article 27 of the disciplinary law, which grants the referee's decisions regarding match events final value, unless there is clear material error. The committee noted that the images and videos presented by Barcelona did not affect the credibility of the referee's report and did not annul the punishment.
Barcelona still has the option to approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport and request a precautionary measure to temporarily suspend the punishment, provided that the request is submitted urgently before 12 noon on Friday, ahead of the Clasico match against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.
