Baba Yara Stadium Returns to the Spotlight.. Wydad Objects
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved the request of Ghana's Asante Kotoko to play the first leg of the playoff round of the African Confederation Cup against Moroccan Wydad on the grounds of Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, after the team was previously forced to host its opponents at the capital's Accra Stadium due to its own stadium not meeting continental standards.
According to Ghana Sports, CAF gave the green light for Kotoko's return to its home ground after implementing a series of technical renovations required for the stadium to be officially approved for hosting continental matches.
Meanwhile, Wydad Athletic Club expressed its refusal to move the match from Accra to Kumasi, insisting on holding the encounter in the capital, justifying its position by stating that Baba Yara Stadium still does not fully comply with all the standards set by the African Union.
The first leg is expected to take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Kumasi, while Wydad will host the return leg in Morocco on Saturday, October 25, to determine the team that qualifies for the group stage of the African Confederation Cup.
