Benshrifa Writes His Name in Derby History

Mohamed Amine Benchrifa etched his name prominently in the record of the Casablanca "derby" after leading Wydad Athletic Club to a valuable victory over their rival Raja Athletic Club with a 1-0 win in the match held at Mohammed V Stadium on Saturday evening, as part of the 20th round of the professional league.

Wydad's victory gave the team a strong boost in the race for the top of the league, narrowing the gap with Raja to just two points amidst an intense rivalry between the two for the summit.

Wydad secured the match result with a goal by player Joseph Bakasso, allowing the red team to continue its positive results under the leadership of Benchrifa, who achieved his second consecutive victory since taking over the coaching role.

This was not Benchrifa's first achievement in derby history, as he had previously tasted victory over Raja when he was a player wearing the Wydad jersey. He successfully repeated the experience this time from the sidelines as a coach, further cementing his presence among the Wydad names that have left a clear mark in encounters with their traditional rival, both on and off the pitch.
