Catalan Police Uncover Financial Irregularities in Malcolm's Deal with Barcelona

The Spanish newspaper "Marca" revealed a report from the Catalan police indicating alleged financial irregularities in the transfer of Brazilian player Malcolm to Barcelona in 2018, as part of ongoing investigations against the former club president Josep Maria Bartomeu and several officials from his previous administration.

According to what Marca reported from the police report submitted to Investigation Court No. 16 in Barcelona, the Catalan club transferred 10 million euros to Business Football Spain for brokerage operations between 2018 and 2020, but the report indicates that these operations may have been unjustified or nonexistent services, or valued above the actual market price.

The report noted that these funds relate to Malcolm's transfer from Bordeaux to Barcelona, where the original contract was amended after signing, resulting in only 1.5 million euros being paid directly to the French club, while 8.4 million euros went to the brokerage company, which reduced the taxes due on the deal in favor of the Spanish tax authorities.

The newspaper added that the public prosecutor accuses Bartomeu and other former officials of committing unfair management crimes after they made financial decisions without the knowledge or authorization of the board of directors.

Marca clarified that the investigation also includes other controversial operations, including a payment of 1.7 million euros to lawyer Gonzales Franco in the Neymar transfer case, along with a compensation of 1.5 million euros to the Esporiti Labita club for damages resulting from the Espai Barcelona project.
