Barcelona is nearing a resolution regarding the renewal of their Dutch player Frenkie de Jong's contract, having offered him an extension for an additional three seasons until the summer of 2029, alongside his current contract which expires in 2026. This move aims to ensure the continuation of one of the team's key pillars.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," negotiations between Barcelona and De Jong's new agent are progressing in a positive atmosphere, with both parties agreeing on most terms of the new contract, which includes a salary lower than his current one, while the player retains his high earnings for the current season due to previous deferrals caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The newspaper confirmed that De Jong has shown his initial agreement to the offer, with a clear desire to continue with Barcelona due to his commitment to the club and his strong rapport with coach Hans Flick and his teammates, prompting the management, led by Joan Laporta and coordinated with Deco, to be eager to finalize the contract details swiftly.

In statements made by Laporta via RAC1 radio, the Barcelona president said: "Work is underway to renew De Jong's contract, Deco has done a great job; we exempted him from the rule of not keeping any player with a short contract due to his change of agent, and he is very excited. Even after recently becoming a father, he says he sleeps well. We hope to have good news soon."
