Negotiations between Spanish club Barcelona and Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong have seen a new development following a meeting between the player's new agent and the club's sports director Deco at the club's sports city on Wednesday.

The talks had recently stalled after De Jong parted ways with his former agent Ali Dursun, but the appointment of new representatives has reopened the door for negotiations, amid a mutual desire between the player and the club to reach a final agreement on renewing the contract.

It is worth noting that Joan Laporta, the club president, had previously confirmed in statements that the renewal process is heading in the right direction.

Despite the tough times De Jong has faced with the team, especially after seriously considering leaving during the last season, his physical improvement and return to his usual level, alongside the team's ambitions, have led him to decide to stay, and the player recently announced in public statements his desire to continue with Barcelona.

The Catalan club hopes to close the renewal file before the end of the summer transfer window to help enhance the financial fair play margin, which would facilitate the registration of new players such as Gerard Martin, Szczęsny, and Bardji.

It is important to mention that the club does not plan to raise De Jong's salary, as he is among the highest-paid players in the team.
